In celebration of World Environment Day 2026, Next Generation Caring Hand Organisation (NGCHO) successfully implemented a community-based environmental conservation initiative aimed at promoting climate action, environmental stewardship, and youth engagement.

Through the Green Footprints Initiative, NGCHO partnered with the Kenya Forest Service (KFS), local police stations, and community stakeholders to plant, distribute, and promote the care of 200 tree seedlings across three locations: Soweto Police Station, Kayole Police Station, and Sheepcare Community Centre.

Bringing Communities Together for Environmental Action
The initiative brought together NGCHO staff, police officers, educators, and young people in a collaborative effort to enhance green spaces while strengthening environmental awareness within the community.

At Soweto and Kayole Police Stations, officers joined NGCHO representatives in planting trees and receiving additional seedlings to support continued greening of their compounds. The activity demonstrated the importance of partnerships in creating sustainable and environmentally conscious communities.

Empowering the Next Generation
At Sheepcare Community Centre, the focus shifted to environmental education and mentorship. More than 70 students participated in interactive climate awareness discussions, practical conservation lessons, and hands-on tree planting activities.

The students explored environmental challenges affecting their communities and learned practical solutions that they can apply in their daily lives. The session concluded with the planting and watering of 20 trees within the school compound, with students encouraged to take responsibility for nurturing the trees as future environmental stewards.
